Trekking for Mountain Gorillas in Uganda: A trip for true adventurers!
Dates: Coming soon!
Highlights and Trip Summary
Imagine locking eyes with a 400-pound silverback mountain gorilla in the wilds of Uganda.
With only around a thousand of these majestic creatures left in the world, it’s a thrilling and unique
encounter—one that few people get to experience in their lifetime.
We believe these once-in-a-lifetime trips are something you should absolutely do if you’re able.
Our goal is to help you make it possible in the most enjoyable way.
For this trip, we hire porters to carry your bags and chairs to help you with the climb up and down the mountain. Unlike other tours, we plan two treks to give you as much chance as possible to see the gorillas.
What’s so unique about this trip?
The Focused Escapes Advantage
This trip is designed for healthy 50 to mid 70 year olds and is best done NOW while you’re still physically capable!

Who comes on these tours?
We typically attract photographers and other travelers who don’t like typical tourist tours. Our guides have a background in photography and they take us to the most photogenic places off the beaten tourist path.
We use local travel writers, bloggers and photographers to create our itineraries. And we stay flexible so we can take advantage of spur-of-the-moment opportunities on the ground.
Participants are typically mid-forties to mid-sixties, fun and healthy with an interest in taking good photos.
What you can expect to see
The endangered Mountain Gorillas — the last of their kind. It’s exciting, intimidating, thrilling and familiar all at the same time. (No trip can guarantee a sighting but we work with locals to find them and then we trek exactly there.)
Chimpanzees
The Impenetrable forest is known for its incredible biodiversity, including more than 120 species of mammals, more than 350 species of birds, and more than 200 species of butterflies.
The Batwa people believe that they are the guardians of the forest and its wildlife, and that they have a spiritual connection to the plants and animals that inhabit the forest. Legend says their people were created by the forest's spirits.
Due to its unique biodiversity and cultural significance, the Impenetrable Forest was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. However, the forest continues to face threats from human activity such as deforestation and poaching, making conservation efforts (and the fee we pay for our permits) crucial to preserving this unique ecosystem for future generations.
Activity Level: VERY HIGH
Though we’ll be driving across the many varied landscapes of Namibia, we’ll also spend time walking and even climbing up a huge sand dune before sunrise. You should be comfortable walking on sand and uneven ground. You should be capable of walking between 2 and 5 miles per day, sometimes over difficult terrain.
If you’re unable to keep up with the group, you may be asked to sit out of an activity. If you have concerns about physical limitations, please contact us.
Transportation types include safari vehicles and a catamaran.

Beginner photographers welcome!
This is a travel tour built for people who like to come home with great pictures. It includes extended times in each location and the itinerary gets us in all the right places in the right light.
There are no photo skill or gear prerequisites. DSLRs, point and shoot cameras, iPhones and travelers without cameras or other smartphones are all welcome.

Our Commitment to Affordability
We pledge to offer expeditions at the best possible price.
We create tours for travelers, not tourists. Folks who want unique experience they wouldn’t likely find on their own. And we strive to make each and every expedition better than the last.
Many other tour companies use a simple formula, designed to shuffle tourists from one place to the next. They’ll use the same itinerary year after year, without making modifications. And that’s not who we are.
To keep our prices low, and our itineraries fresh, we stay on top of the trends, deals, and best-value opportunities that we can get our hands on. Often times $2,000-$3,000 less than what you’ll find elsewhere!
